Supporting You

Supporting You emotional wellbeing and resilience programme

Who is Supporting You for?

Supporting You is a free 10-week programme for young people aged 11-17 who are beginning to show very early signs of distress due to anxiety or low mood who are not receiving support elsewhere as they would not meet the criteria for a referral.

What support will young people receive?

Supporting You groups will provide 2-hour sessions, once a week for 10 weeks in a fun, workshop type environment.

Attendees will learn 12 techniques based on CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and a method for planning how to achieve goals.

CBT looks at the links between the way we think, what we feel, and what we do  and helps people reduce the thoughts that create stress and anxiety and low mood and instead feel better able to manage day to day life.

Sessions will include up to 12 attendees per group, and young people will be grouped with others of similar age. The programme is run by Youth Workers trained to deliver CBT. The team are available to provide one-on-one support if desired.

Feedback from young people who attended the course

“I like how it is very practical and straightforward, the skills are really simple and easy to remember.”

“Thank you so much for allowing me onto this course. These methods will be really useful and will help me handle any stresses or concerns I have in the future.”

"This course showed me how my goals can be achievable.”

“Rather than just say ‘reduce negative thinking’ the skills I have learnt have given me practical techniques to use.”

How can young people access the Supporting You programme?

Professionals who work with young people and parents/carers can refer a young person to one of these projects here: Make a referral

After booking, a Youth Worker will contact the young person and arrange a one-to-one meeting to explain the programme in more detail.  The programme is being evaluated and so the young people will be asked to complete pre and post evaluations and feedback
