On 3 December, content contributed by children and young people with SEND from across Hertfordshire and the East of England will be shared on Hertfordshire County Council and Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust social media channels to help them get their voices heard. Young people can also get involved by posting on their own social media using the hashtag #SENDtakeover2024.
The theme for the day is 'This is me' and we are calling all young people (aged up to 25) with SEND to join in and share what is important for us to know about them, what they think, feel and experience, and let us know their views and ideas. This can be through pictures, writing or poetry, art, songs or videos.
There will also be a live Q&A session with Hertfordshire County Council and Public Health leaders taking place on Facebook and Instagram on the day. They will aim to answer questions sent in via schools, partners and youth work projects and youth councils.
At SfYP SEND youth work projects and youth councils, our Youth Workers are supporting young people to create artwork, videos and photo story boards to contribute to the social media channels, including the Voices of Hertfordshire YouTube channel, a new channel made for young people by young people.
Feedback from young people gathered over the day will be presented by the SEND young experts by experience (aged 19- 25 with lived experience of SEND) at the next meeting of leaders across the SEND partnership on 12th December 2024 and will be used to inform improvements across SEND services and policies.
A social media takeover day toolkit for schools and other organisations that work with young people with SEND and want to take part is available on the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning.
