The Services for Young People (SfYP) Pride Prom began in response to young LGBT+ people saying they didn’t feel like they could attend their school proms as their authentic selves. The annual event gives young people a safe and inclusive environment where they can fully express themselves and celebrate their individuality, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The 2022 Pride Prom theme was ‘Hertstopper’ and young people attending all 10 SfYP LGBT+ projects were invited, giving them a chance to meet new people from projects across the county.
The countywide SfYP LGBT+ ‘Who Not What’ groups, which represent the voice of young LGBT+ people, decided the theme and helped to plan and organise the event. 143 young people came together for the evening of celebrations and gave lots of positive feedback.
Feedback from young people attending the 2022 SfYP Pride Prom:
“It was amazing, I made so many new friends.”
“It gave me the chance to meet new people.”
“It was a really nice atmosphere.”
