The Services for Young People (SfYP) Watford Team is offering an exciting new opportunity for young people in the district this term. The SfYP NSPCC Neglect Matters Partnership Project is part of a series of countywide events and activities to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of neglect and highlight the support available if someone is worried about a child or young person.
Neglect Matters is a joint campaign with the NSPCC and Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership. It aims to help people understand:
- What neglect is
- What acceptable standards of care for children and young people are
- How to recognise neglect (signs and symptoms)
- The consequences of neglect
- Where children, young people, parents/carers, professionals can go for help and advice
The project enables young people aged 15-17 in the Watford area to take the lead in designing resources to help other young people understand what neglect is and help decide the most effective ways of sharing information that will prevent it from happening. At the first project session of 2023, the group discussed writing a song about neglect using the music studio facilities at Watford Young People’s Centre. This would accompany a neglect toolkit for use in schools and by other professionals working with children and young people across Hertfordshire.
