Services for Young People (SfYP) offers a wide range of careers information, advice and guidance (IAG) and work-related learning (WRL) services to schools and colleges to equip young people with essential skills and empower them to achieve a successful transition into adulthood.
One aspect of our traded offer is a range of careers education groupwork sessions for Key Stages 2 to 5. The ‘Navigate Your Future’ groupwork programme is designed for Key Stage 3 students (Years 7 to 9) and centres around a series of interactive, thought-provoking workshops, aligned with the CDI Career Development Framework.
The workshops enable students to start thinking about and preparing for their future. They address various aspects of careers education, including exploring aspirations, identifying personal skills and qualities, investigating local career opportunities, and developing teamwork and communication skills.
During the summer term, the SfYP Broxbourne, East Herts and Welwyn Hatfield IAG WRL Team delivered the workshops to 240 Year 7 students (aged 11 to 12) at Goffs Academy in Cheshunt. Over the course of the three-hour sessions, the students actively participated in activities and discussions about their short-term and long-term goals, identifying potential barriers and how to overcome them, and learning about resilience and the power of positive thinking.
Feedback from two of the students:
“I liked today because I got to think about what I wanted to do. I loved the activities and the fact that I was included. I could chat with my friends and discuss my ideas. It was fun and happy. It helped me think about getting older and all the job options.”
"I think my favourite bit of today was sharing my future dream job/career. I think it was perfect."
Learning providers interested in offering this programme to their students can explore the package of workshops available by visiting our Navigate Your Future webpage.
