Being online is a big part of daily life for young people, allowing them to connect with friends, learn new things and have fun. However, they may not always be aware of the negative impact it can have on their wellbeing. Just Talk’s annual campaign week emphasises the importance of mental health and how young people can access support services available in Hertfordshire.
This year’s campaign theme is ‘Just Be Scroll Savvy’ and aims to encourage safe internet use that positively impacts mental health. Throughout the week, Just Talk will share tips and information on their social media channels and campaign webpage. There will also be virtual events, including a workshop by WithYouth on positive online safety.
Services for Young People (SfYP) runs youth work projects across Hertfordshire which support emotional wellbeing, promote online safety and help young people plan for the future. They give young people the opportunity to discuss challenges, understand the impact of internet use, recognising cyberbullying, learn how to stay safe and protect their mental health.
At all SfYP projects, including the 11-5 Projects at our young people’s centres, young people can discuss concerns with qualified SfYP Youth Workers or Advisers and learn strategies for managing social media positively, as well as finding out how to access other support if needed.
Our preventative youth work programmes in schools and colleges also provide tailored support to young people, including sessions on healthy relationships, personal safety, and emotional wellbeing.
If you know or work with a young person who could benefit from support from SfYP, please use the SfYP referral form or contact your local SfYP team.
