The Generation Hertsmere event was organised by Hertsmere Borough Council in partnership with the Hertfordshire Careers Hub (Hertfordshire Futures) and gave young people who live or go to school or college in Hertsmere the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the careers available in their area and meet local employers and training providers.

The two SfYP Advisers at the event provided the young people with impartial careers guidance, focusing on the needs of each young person and their individual circumstances and interests. They helped the young people understand more about local job opportunities and learn about the skills and knowledge needed for the roles and the different paths into work. They answered questions, provided information on next steps in employment, education and training, and directed young people to reliable information sources for further research. They also discussed arranging personal careers guidance interviews in schools that work with SfYP, as well as the information, advice and support available at the 11-5 projects at SfYP’s young people’s centres.

Youth Workers from the SfYP Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere Team were also at the event to speak to young people about the range of youth work projects and youth councils on offer in their area.

An SfYP Employment and Skills Coordinator attended to network with employers to create new partnerships, discuss potential work experience placements and setting up other work-related learning opportunities for young people in the area.

The event was a great success with young people benefitting from expert advice about the local job market, helping to build a future workforce with the right skills and a strong economy in the area.
