New Duke of Edinburgh’s Award projects

19 November 2024

In January 2025, Services for Young People will be launching four new Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) projects across Hertfordshire, specifically in Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Waltham Cross and Stevenage. The projects will provide young people with enriching opportunities to develop new skills, gain valuable experience and contribute positively to their communities through volunteering.

The new SfYP DofE projects will be delivered by our Youth Workers and are specifically for young people who would be less likely to access DofE through traditional routes: those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), young people missing from education, home educated young people, and young people being supported by a social worker. By creating an inclusive and supportive environment, the projects will ensure that all participants can benefit from the DofE experience, regardless of their background or abilities. This approach not only supports young people’s personal growth but also promotes diversity and inclusion within the community.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is renowned for inspiring young people to explore who they are, grow in confidence and develop essential life skills. Participants build their own programme, choosing activities and causes to volunteer for. The SfYP DofE projects will offer a range of activities, from environmental conservation to community support opportunities, ensuring there is something to suit all participants. Young people will work alongside our experienced Youth Workers and volunteers, promoting a sense of teamwork and achievement.

By participating in an SfYP DofE project, young people will not only enhance their personal growth but also make a meaningful impact in their local area.
