Young LGBT+ people celebrate their achievements by going to see the Lion King

30 December 2022

The Services for Young People Dacorum and St Albans Team, in partnership with the Swan Youth Project in Berkhamsted, were awarded funding for the trip from Amazon as a way to celebrate the progress the young people have made as a result of attending both projects.

The Lion King theatre production

The Services for Young People (SfYP) Dacorum LGBT+ Project is for young lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people aged 13-17 across Dacorum and provides a safe space for them to meet new people and get support from Youth Workers.

Many of the young people would not have had the opportunity to experience a trip to the theatre in London, so this was a fantastic way to reward them and build their confidence.

John McEwen, Site Leader at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead, said:
“We are very happy to support Services for Young People’s efforts with this donation. The staff and volunteers provide a fantastic service, and we’d like to thank them for everything they’re doing for the young people of Hertfordshire.”

Feedback from a young person who went on the trip
“The show was incredible; it was a lovely experience. The Youth Workers were accommodating to extra needs, in particular panic disorders, and having someone there who understood me really helped. This is something I would not have been able to handle without them”.
